Our new baby

Lisa was due to be induced at 7am this morning (6/16/10), and we expected that our new little boy would share his Granddad Robbins' birthday. Instead, he was so anxious to get started on his mortal life that he came last night, so he'll share his birthday with his Uncle Brian. Here are the details.

We took the kids swimming at the Lehi Legacy Center pool around 7pm last night. While we were at the pool, Lisa began having contractions that were about six minutes apart. We left the pool at 9pm, grabbed some pizza, and came home initially with the intent to put the kids to bed so we could get up early the next morning. When I got home from the pizza run, Lisa told me that the urgency level had moved up enough to merit a trip to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital shortly after 10pm. Stephen George Robbins was born less than an hour an a half later. Apparently he's had some issues with his ability to inhale oxygen, so we haven't had the chance to hold him yet. It's expected that he'll be in the Level II nursery for two days so the oxygen level in his blood can be monitored. After that, we can take him home. It's been difficult not being able to take the little guy into our own little hospital room and allow him to be with his momma, but we understand the need to take precautions to make sure he turns out a healthy boy.

Here are some pictures from the festivities:

Little Stephen wasn't too impressed with the treatment he received from the nurses. I'm sure it's a shock for a newborn to go from the quiet shelter of the womb to a cold place where people are constantly poking around with random things.
